Having  attended a recent exhibitions and weddings in Allahabad, I have realized most women don’t know when to stop with the blinging. Yes, you heard that right bling or glitter and glitz is good but to certain limit so  it doesn’t overpower everything else.

    I like bling too, and especially during weddings get carried away with it, but once you start toning it down you will realize the little bit of  it has a better effect. If you read through shaadi shine you will know  how to  dress the best during weddings. The lesser the bling, more the shine. Here are some ways to have  the right kind of bling :

1. Rhinestones:  big stones on your outfit, jewelry, shoes or bag. Big stones on bridal and wedding wear were in a couple of years ago and so were cocktail rings. Big stones have the biggest disadvantage of looking tacky if not used proportionately. One intricately carved pendant jewellery adorned with one big stone as its centre, intricate gotta work or zardosi having medium sized stones or  a saree with a velvet blouse to dull the bling. Most importantly if your clothes have so much stone then ensure the jewellery paired doesn’t and is minimalistic. Studded shoes and miniaudieres stand out best when worn with non bling outfits. One big stone at a time can make you look classy.

2. Sequins : the tiniest bit of bling but  the most impactful if used right. Embeded in delicate embroidery or fabric entirely made of sequins. Used on big quantities , so they glitter without looking tacky. Sequin blouses, skirts, dresses, waistcoats and jackets are very in  and mostly in  gold, silver and black are the popular variety. Hobos and clutches also use sequins as embellishments. Rhinestones and sequins are used together as well but should be Thu central focus leaving rest of the outfit plain.

3. Swarvoski : crystals might be one of the cheaper blings but can  look supremely classy if worn right. Swarvoski encrusted sarees, anarkalis and dresses were started initially in India by House of Vallaya but now are available in all prices and varieties. Crystal jewellery has been a range since the inception of swarvoski itself and has made it a luxury. Crystal rings and bracelets look  elegant and have the right amount of bling and so do miniaudieres. Pairing a
Svarwoski saree with a plain blouse  and crystal bangles and drop earrings or a satin sheath  dress  and statement necklace with a miniaudiere helps you showcase the beauty of all and has bling in the right quantities.

4. Diamontes : miniscule American diamonds or artificial diamonds are popularly known as diamontes. Came into existence  mainly due to the need of bling by women, but now seems to have gone overboard. There was even a trend of putting a strand of diamonte in your hair, and normally they are in sarees, anarkalis, dupattas, sandals, bags and hairbands. They are definitely the cheaper version of crystals and are often found in heavy zardosi outfits, their biggest advantage being light weight. Their bling is a little duller and is extensively  used in Indian wear. I think dupattas with their sprinkle worn with a heavy brocade or silk suit look the best as you conquer both regal and bling.

5. Shimmer : mostly metallic glitter or dust on  fabrics such as silk and satin mostly. Popular in shoes, crop tops, party tops, lehengas, clutches and most importantly shoes. Also found as a part of make up and body  glitter and as bangles in jewellery. Again wearing shimmer shoes with definitely a plain bottom helps your bling stand out. Clothes which are of a rich fabric scream classy much more than bling. Shimmer is light and has a lovely way of glittering and not shining.Shimmer net lehengas with velvet blouses look glamourous.

5. Studs : gold or silver studded jackets, bags, shoes and bracelets were a rage and are still in punk fashion. That add a bit of edge and an understated bling. Wearing patent leather stud shoes with denims help the bling bling.

7. Metallic beads : beads can also  be used as an  alternative to sequins. They are used as embroidery thread entwined with rhinestones or sequins. Can be one of the shiniest but can look the classiest on sarees as a really thin border or even on corset tops.
Pearl work can also be termed as beading.

8. Shiny gold : mostly in terms of  gold chains of the thickest variety. Popularized by the gangsta look, the thickness and length increasing. Gold is a shiny metal and wearing it over blinged out outfits just makes you look tacky and  doesn’t enhance the outfit, so  while wearing thick  or heavy gold jewellery ensure that the fabric is duller or plain so  it will show your jewellery better. I know during Indian weddings everyone wants to show their finest jewellery and clothes but then it becomes a matter of pairing them right. Silk sarees with borders can be worn with heavy jewellery as the fabric is rich and gives a neat base to show your bling. Try pairing a brocade suit with gold drop earrings instead of a full set and see the effect. Big earrings are in especially in chand balis and temple jewellery, but also to a nice size, earrings bigger than the face are just plain tacky. They should be delicate not disfiguring.

9. Kamdani : or mukes work is basically an outfit has scattered silver or gold dots and glitters. The fabric is plain satin, silk, cotton or georgette being the popular choice. I personally  love this work as it gives the subtle glitter effect and very  popular in chikankari and kantha work. These  outfits adorned with nice kundan work borders showcase the beauty even more,  its very traditional.

    Thus, bling adds glamour but only in the right way. It should not dictate but compliment your style. Overdoing of anything is tacky, bling being the easiest one, so always balance your look. Shiny make up, jewellery plus clothes only spell overload. Stay classy and bling it  on.
