Subtly Sexy

Ever wonder why some women turn more heads than others? No its not just their prettiness or figure, but actually their confidence that oozes sexiness. Sexy does not mean skimpy clothing, nudity has no correlation to sexiness but confidence does.
Todays blog is going to be about bringing out your feminity in a manner which is you and not inspired by the latest item song. The other day I was reading an article on Iconic saree blouses of bollywood but all they showcased were actually brassieres and not blouses. So, here are some pointers on being a head turner and not the latest pinup girl :

image
©
1. Sheer : Net, georgette, chiffon, organza, chanderi are all transparent fabrics which have structure and form. Net sleeves may not be all that sexy as they tend to highlight the flaws, but sheer backs are super sexy. Or even sheer necklines especially your shoulders. They are not revealing but the little skin through the fabric can be super sexy but in an elegant manner.
image
©
E.g.(a) Blouses with low backs but covered with sheer fabrics.
image
©
(b) Dresses with a sheer edging for around 2 inches, they are longer but sexy at the same time.

image
©
2. Structure: Fabrics which are form fitting not tight fitting give you the best fit. Always ensure proportions in clothes you choose as it gives one the hourglass shape and nothing is more attractive.
image
©
E.g. (a) Cigerrete pants with jacket kurtas spell elegance and a hint of oomph.
image
©
(b) Bandaid knee length dresses are considered sexy for a reason.
image
©
3. Seams : Necklines and hemlines are considered the measuring point of sexiness of an outfit. So does that mean plunge down and ride up, definitely not. The secret is the correct balance of skinshow if at all needed. If you are wearing deep necklines, then ensure you have long hemlines and if super short bottoms then full necks work like wonders. Structure of outfit speaks more volumes than plunges.
image
©
E.g. (a) Opting for ankle length pants with long kurtas not only add structure but just the sliver of your ankle can be seductive.

image
©
(b) Wearing a wrap top with a deep V with trousers balances the outfit impeccably.
image
©
4. Slits : slits are always considered sexy, yes the most common form is in gowns which are known to go up thigh high. But why would you want to be textbook sexy?

image
©
E.g. (a) Sleeves can make or break your look, how about adding a slit to a high necked blouse, or to a cap sleeve of a collared Kurta.
image
©
(b) A women’s waist is considered the sexiest part of her body, cut out tops and dresses work but if you are super conscious then sheer covered ones do as well.

image
©
5. Shoulderless : off shoulder or wide necks can be more appealing than backless or plungers. It not only gives you a toned look but also adds a little pizzaz to a boring outfit.
image
©
E.g (a) Lace blouses with wide deep necks where the lining starts from above the cleavage or the pair it with an opaque saree to turn up the heat.
image
©
(b) The oldest fashion but even still is classic sexy, jeans with an off shoulder peasant top. Works always and looks good on all body types.
image
©
6. Stripes and spots : its not only materials but even prints are considered alluring. Animal print is always known to up the oomph factor but then again it should be minimal and not the entire outfit which ends up screaming look at me.
image
©
E.g. (a) Pair a plain solid coloured saree with a cap sleeved cheetah print blouse instead of wearing an entire saree.
image
©
(b) Leopard print shoes or a clutch paired with jumpsuit with a single gold accessory that is statement chic and sexy.
image
©
Thus, smoky eyes are sexy but with nude lipsticks, red is a staple sexy but try some in oxblood but with a little gloss. Hairstyles can create a look, open hair is sexy but so are messy braids so experiment. Your glowing skin and confidence teamed together make you more alluring, and by carrying your clothes correctly even more so.
image
©
There is a thin line between subtle and over the top and at times we can be more the latter. Leather is considered the sexiest material but the truth is it only looks good when worn right, leather pants are gone , the latest trends are of skirts and dresses. Knee length, A line or flared keep you away from looking dominatrixy and keeps you looking trendy. Lace and animal prints are where we make the most errors. Too much of lace sometimes can make one look like a tablecloth and animal print in excess turns you into Jane. So, be careful while choosing those outfits, as lace dupattas can be as sexy as lace sarees and cheetah print shells as attractive as a shirt. Slits in an outfit overall can be confusing, pant slits are on the same level as skirt slits and sheer necklines classier than plunges.

image
©
Shoes are the sexiest accessory as they are statements, how gold or silver looks on your skin tone also sets the tone of your outfit. Looking sexy can also be important to keep your love life upbeat, you don’t have to be chikni chameli but attractive. Attractiveness is what keeps the spark, so be subtly sexy and with a combination of all the above in exact measures is what will make you a head turner, so start calculating and put your sexiest foot forward.

Purse-onified

image

While talking about designer labels how can one forget purses. They have become the most expensive commodity.

          Roma Sloan ©

Thus, the last blog’s have been about luxury designers. But fashion does come with a name tag, and if you are inspired enough to start a bag collection or already have one then, now you know how to make it iconic.

What’s in a name?

image

image

Ever wonder how people know all those brands and designers? Are they only a part of the society lady conversations or have they even seeped into our everyday life? I for one am into designer labels  at times but am also of the opinion that if you invest something  then it should be for what its actually known for, for e.g. jimmy choo is a shoe brand so why would I want a perfume that smells like that!
There is a difference between brands and fashion labels just like prêt and coture. Labels are not just about who’s wearing what but now even who’s wearing it? We have started following brand marketing instead of actually paying attention to the importance of the label and it’s product. So today’s blog just doesn’t give you a label-o-graphy but what actually you should invest in, just like Carrie Bradshaw said : “I  like my money right where I can see it…hanging in my closet “. So here goes:

image

image

image

1. Louis Vuittion : one of the oldest fashion houses and no fashion journal is complete without it.  Louis Vuittions best product is still its trunk in darmier (light brown and dark brown squares)  and speedy bag contrary to its fashionable baguettes and totes.

image

image

2. Hermés : most women know of the iconic Kelly bag which is  actually a product of hermès. Scarves have been it’s signature product.

image

3. Burberry: known for its trademark ‘Haymarket check’ patterns, it is the founder of the garbadine jacket which is the trench coat. It is for all weather’s and till date their iconic offering.

image

image

image

4. Manolo Blahniks : made famous by ‘Sex and the City’ is still one of the best shoe brands of the world. They gave us the iconic stiletto pumps. Bella swan sported the ‘Swan Pump’ in Breaking Dawn for her wedding.

image

image

5. Tiffany’s & Co.: diamonds are a girls best friend and Tiffany’s her favourite retailer. So if there are diamonds to be bought then tiffany’s is where you go.

image

6. Prada: one of the best designer of leather goods who has now branched into other categories of retailing. Pradas best known for the classic Prada handbag which was also one of it’s first product.

image

image

image

7. Dior: we see Dior perfumes, cosmetics but did you know its first product was an outfit called the ‘bar suit’ and then they forayed into perfumes with Miss Dior. Now it has one of the most iconic bags the Lady Dior to it’s collection of must haves.

image

8. Gucci: the first product and the most iconic is the Bamboo Bag and after it’s success the company branched out into footwear, accessories, perfumes, etc.

image

image

9. Armani:  coined the term ‘power suits’ with their designs of men’s suits still their best selling product. Armani is one of the premier men’s brands in clothing , accessories and perfumes.

image

image

image

10. Chanel: talk of high fashion is incomplete without Coco Chanel. She invented the Little Black Dress which is a women wardrobe essential, and then the perfume Chanel No. 5. But it also gave the bag world one of its best icons in the 2.55 chanel purse.
Thus, these designers are famous and sometimes it can be confusing as to which luxury product is the best and what is it’s iconic offerings. So now you know what to invest in if you do have a luxury brand wishlist.
Watch this space for the next few articles on the designers of India and international fame and what is the beat product. So next time at social do you can join in on the name dropping and enlighten them on the actual best buy.

Its all about loving yourself :)

best-dressed-women-filmfare-awards-2015-red-carpet1.1©

Shopping always gives me perspective and makes me wonder how some women always get it right and for others it’s a hit or miss. It’s not that they all have perfect bodies but only that they know how to dress right. Today, I want to blog about how clothes are just a tool to enhance the beautiful you. We all strive for the perfect body but what about first embracing the one we have and loving the way we look.
Am all for healthy and fit bodies but what about the days you feel bloated or the extra kilos you put on after the wedding season? Or what about all the access weight loss during ramzan?  You can’t always be customizing, so here are a few tricks on how to always dress well and putting your best self forward:

d21d611e97a9826111a03cb8204bcf0e©

1. Necklines : The main focus of necklines is not just your bustline, but actually your neck and shoulders are impacted more. V-necks and cowl necks actually are great for elongating the neck and are also great for minimizing your bust. Boat necks and wide square necks actually structure your shoulders more and can create slender shoulders. Wide scoops, round and princess cuts actually create more curves for a very skinny frame. Princess cuts and layered necks with frills also help in enhancing the bust line, as though empire cuts. Printed tops are good for adding more curves to the top.

images (1)An-Dyer-rainbow-lens-flare-wearing-Fidelity-Denim-Batista-Black-White-Floral-Print-Skinny-Jeans-BCBGeneration-DIY-Affirmation-Br©Madhuri-and-Huma-walked-down-the-red-car161213123813188_480x600©
2. Muffin tops : Everyone tends to have a little bit of tummy flab, irrespective of their frame and body type. So how can we create a smaller middle as that is one body part most women are conscious of. An hourglass shape is the most flattering and needs a defined waistline. Peplum tops and belts help the most but it is not necessary that they hit you right at the waist (smallest part of your torso). I find that belts placed at the navel have a slimmer effect and peplums which begin just there are more flattering. Peasant tops and  and handkerchief hemlines are flowy and can be camouflaging but ensure you have a fitted bottom to create proportion. Opt for mid rise bottoms as they help flatten your tummy. Baby doll dresses and dresses which have divisions work best as they take attention away from your waist, but add more structure. A line kurtas and straight cuts work best as they are structured, empire cut necklines in tops, anarkalis and dresses should be avoided. Dresses or tops which have darker side edges create a slimmer torso. Printed bottoms help take away the focusc500x408©

3. Arms : Covering is not always the best option for everything cause it is like running away from a problem and not facing it.  Full sleeves, net sleeves, georgette sleeves , etc, just add more curves and make them look curvier. Best options  for curvy arms are 3/4  or sleeves just above your elbows in opaque fabrics as they add more structure and give your arms better proportion. Solid colours, prints or embroidery on the edges or work best.  Full sleeves, puff sleeves, cap sleeves, sleeves till the elbow add more curves and are great options for super skinny arms. Ensure that the sleeves are about an inch looser, prints and embroidery are good options for a more curvy arm.

4. Bootyliscious : If we have a curvy derriere we are unhappy and if we don’t we are unhappy. Pencil skirts and low waisted pants create curves. High waisted bottoms can act as a minimizer. Flared skirts with box pleats create curves, knife thin pleats are better for more complimentary to curves.  A-line kurtas give you a wider back frame. If you are curvy, opt for side slits starting below your hips for more structure. Anarkalis add fabric and also hide but then again that depends on fabric and cut. Mermaid skirts add curves, gypsy and peasant skirts flowy over all don’t, but ones which are more fitted at the waist and hips do and can be very flattering. Patiala salwars, harem pants, dhoti pants and ghararas add the most amount of curves, so one can opt for semi patialas, churidars, wrap dhoti salwars and rampuri ghararas as they give more structure.

Best-Outfits-with-Ankle-Boots Knee-High-Boots-with-Midi-Skirt ©download (1) Wedding-Guest-Outfit-with-Pencil-Skirt©

5. Gump-tion : Legs and arms have the tendency to be the most toned parts of our body as they give the quickest results from work outs. If you want to enhance your thighs opt for jeans with a lighter wash on the thighs in skinny and bootcuts. To make your thighs appear more proportionate opt for top to bottom dark wash denims or printed denims but in straight and skinny options. Bottoms which are snug at the hips, put focus on your thighs as well. Palazzos hide your legs, just like maxi skirts ad dresses. Churidars and leggings focus more on shins, should be worn with tops at least 4 inches below your hips for a shapely figure, this way you can add curves or structure and have an hourglass shape. Flowy tops add curves, straight add structure.  Capris and tea lengths add more length to your legs. Skirts or dresses till your knee actually give you a more defined figure, shorter options are great for petite frames to add more length. Floor length anarkalis, straight long kurtas camouflage but high low anarkalis add more shape. Boots especially knee high and ankle length give you more structured shins and ankles. Leather adds structure, crinkled and fleece add curves. Knee high boots also elongate your legs and look really good with knee length skirts and skinny jeans. Somehow mini skirts and shorts with knee high boots look confused but with ankle length create the right definition and length.

Scarves and Jackets can be covering, but you want them to add structure and style and not just hide behind them. Scarfed can show you how to wear them as the right accessory to  enhance your figure, jackets add structure but can be boxy if they don’t have the right shape. The overall cu and structure of your entire outfit is what matters the most.

E.g. (a)Thin tall frame:- Opt for a flared gypsy skirt, with a cap sleeved tank in print and maybe a scarf in complementing colour to the skirt.
-Patiala salwar with a straight short kurta with elbow length sleeves.

Christmas-Long-Shirts-Pencil-Trouser- Clothing9.blogspot.com -4download©
(b) Petite curvy frame:- Opt for tea length skirt in knife prints and a straight blouse with a shrug .
-Till the ankle cigarette pants with an A-line kurta with 3/4 length sleeves.

(c) Athletic framed with a muffin top:- Opt for A line maxi skirt and a peasant top with a belt right at the navel.
-Palazzo pants with a straight long kurta .

These are just some techniques on summer skirt looks on how you can work your figure and put your best stylish self forward and make it look easy breezy.  So go ahead pull out the tricks and become eye candy.

Summer go to fabrics are cotton, muslin, chiffon, linen, lawn, etc. They are cooling but maybe sometimes too casual for formal events so what do you do then? Today’s blog will cover dressing well even in the summer and rocking the look.

a) Western wear :  a pair of  shorts, mini skirts or rompers are not the only options try some chinos or palazzos to the list and you have a variety of options. Though floral and whites are the popular choices show some Aztec and tribal printerest. The key to styling is the print focus on one part of the outfit, or breaking the print with one solid piece. Bangles and earrings are less hassling and top your look with a fedora to protect your hair from the sun.

Work Wear : The thought of binding clothes can be as tiring as put them on. You still have to be formal to work even in 38 degree temperature as sadly meetings cannot be conducted in shorts and flipflops.  So here are some power dressing  options:

cae1550e53e8c4d5617aabd9c605570e20c42bceadf90d804b2050e2217c538df999c9fb1dcb51f2aa50712e801dfb606133dc174a18bac1819301b307a8e0f8e07abe9abb647cfcc18fad7d0ced777d80df964bd90c093d1e765022fd25ff20

a) Western Wear : Ditch the fitted trousers for gauchos and khakhis. The pencil skirts for summer dresses and tea length skirts worn with shirts, Ensure jackets are handy with peeptoes or strappy sandals complimenting your tote. The fit is what is important but these cotton or flowy fabric items make it more breathable and keep you calm and cool in the heat.

b) Ethnic Wear: Churidar and kurta are hassle free but can be too hot to handle. Try teaming a patiala salwar with a shirt collared kurta or some dhoti pants and see heads turn. Cotton sarees and A-line kurtas can be cooling as well or even kurtis paired with some capris or chinos. Add a statement necklace or bracelet and you will be making more notice than the memos sent out.

a) Western Wear : wearing a gaucho jumpsuit or maxi skirt will be a nice option from the boring jeans and capris with tops. Summer dresses  can be cooling and stylish at the same time as well. Accessorize with some chunky jewellery, stylish heels and statement clutch. Don’t overdo the make up even if your outfit is simple, the make up should be complimentary and highlight one feature.

b) Ethnic wear :  palazzo suits, georgette sarees, cotton silk anarkalis and dhoti pants can be cooling and trendy at the same time. Chiffon, georgette are cooling fabrics and also easier to handle. Chunky jhumkis with metallic kolhapuris and statement clutch and you will be the centre of attention. The cut and style is important and also that maybe one piece is more formal than the others can make it summer party ready outfit.

5. Wedding wear : the thought of brocade, silks, velvet and net can be bad enough to make you not want to attend any weddings in the summer at all. But worry not by styling your chiffon outfit right you might just make the shaadi shine.

a) Western wear :  opting for lace dresses, pleated maxi dresses and maybe jumpsuits can keep you cool amongst the bustle of the wedding guests. Bracelets and drop earrings are your accessories with a nice jewelled minaudiere (bag it up baby!)  to compliment your dazzling shoes. Keep your hair loose or twist it in a chignon and keep everybody dazzled by your beauty and summer cool.

b) Ethnic wear : indian weddings are more dressy but also a lot hotter due to the huge number of guests and open venues. How can you compete with all the wedding finery? opt for a georgette chikankari lehenga with sequins, a lace saree with a metallic blouse, organza or cotton jamdar lehenga or anarkali. Not only are these cooling but at the same time different from the run of the mill lighter silk sarees. The importance goes on the embroidery and the fir of the outfit as the fabric is lighter. Indian outfits are incomplete without bangles and the statement batwa, paired with shimmer sandals and you will be the talk of the wedding.

Since summer is more about keeping the clothes flowy and accessories simple your hair and make up can take centre stage. But the same rules always apply i.e. if eyes are heavily done than keep the lips simple and vice versa. Use a bronzer for a blush to give a golden glow to your sunkissed cheeks, powder foundations can be helpful as they absorb the sweat. Using a light mousse foundation will keep your skin hydrated and compact giving it a matt effect. Orange, peach and shades of red are popular summer lip colours. Hair left loose with the natural waves gives you a nice breezy look, whereas braids and buns can make you look classy and keep you cool.

Summer colours change every year, corals and pinks were last season this year the fashion weeks spoke about blues, greens, reds and orange. Earthy and pastels have always been summer favourites, but bright colours help add some colour to the seas of whites and creams. Floral prints are being over shadowed by tribal and aztecs and jersey a popular choice for summer fabrics as well.  Thus, you can read up more on summer colours in colouring and indian summer. Keep the tips in mind, and sparkle in the summer fun.

Palazzo pants have been a rage for the last year or so. Not only popular as a western outfit but have gained more popularity in traditional wear. These wide legged wide bottomed pants are loose and flowy and flattering for most body types but that’s  determined by the top worn.
Like all other outfits they also have lounge, casual, smart casuals and formal styles. So lets take a look on how to wear them :

image

1. Lounge wear : lounge wear is defined as outfits worn to lounge in the house or rather home clothes but not just your old shorts and top. These outfits worn when you have company at home or clothes worn while inside at vacations.

image

image

a) Western wear : mostly printed palazzos of cotton or satin material teamed with tanks or loose blouses complete this look and give one a casual chic look.

image

image

b) Ethnic wear: team printed palazzos with a plain Kurta or plain hoseiry palazzos with a printed Kurta. The Kurta should preferrably straight or shirtish for comfort.

image

2. Casual wear : these clothes are basically for day outings and running errands. They should be smart and practical but have  fashion to it.

image

image

a) Western wear : crop tops, t-shirts or even flowy blouses paired with accessories or a nice scarf. Team them with wedges and a nice tote and you are ready for your day outings.

image

image

b) Ethnic wear : team a nice chikankari Kurta with plain palazzos or opt for the lawn suits with mix and match prints and voila you are ready in your ethnic chic look. Materials used can be lawn, cotton or even chiffon or georgette. Kurtas are either a line or even semi anarkali.

image

3. Office wear :  work wear or outfits worn in professional settings are termed as office wear. During the summer, the loose and flowy palazzos can be cooling fir the summer and thicker materials like silk or twill can also help one keep warm in the winter months. These are good options to the boring trousers and skirts for work.

image

image

a) Western wear : opt for belted options in small prints or plain colours team it with a shell and a jacket and you are ready to be the office fashionista. Since the bottom is lose ensure that the top of the outfit is more structured you can wear pumps or even platform peeptoes. A good material is chiffon in prints or a more structured twill with convential designs of checks and hounstooth.

image

image

b) Ethic wear: palazzo suits with dupatta look more formal. If you opt for shirt kurtas and palazzos ensure its short collared with more structure. Wear a statement necklace or a big kada and block heeled or wedge sandals or peeptoes and impress your colleagues with your in vogue style statement.

image

4. Party wear : the fabric is the key to make any outfit look formal, and they differ in western and ethic wear. Shimmer and shine could be considered important aspects of party wear, but the true key is the fit and accessories as they decide your entire look.

image

image

a) Western wear : plain pleated chiffon palazzos teamed with a printed or coloured shirt or crop top, worn with pumps and you are ready to charm the party. A nice bracelet or drop earrings with a statement clutch add the little bit of oomph needed.

image

image

b) Ethnic wear : silk, chiffon, georgettes rule the roost in formal fabrics in ethnic wear. Gottapatti, embroidery are added embellishments to enhance the glitter factor. Palazzo suits with anarkali or sherwani kurtas are a major range and the perfect combination of the 2 most popular trends. The key to not overdoing the shine is subtle accessories or lesser embellishments on the outfit. If your palazzos have laced edges then ensure the bottom of your Kurta doesn’t though you can have work on the side or vice versa. Heavily embroidered bodices look better with chandelier earrings and full sleeve with no bangles or just a kada. Strappy sandals or heeled kolhapuris could add the oomph factor for your trendy party outfit.

image

5. Wedding wear : yes you read that right, the palazzo range has become fancy as well. Maybe not worn by the bride herself but definitely has become a trend in wedding fineries.

image

image

image

a) Western wear : palazzo suits or jumpsuits made of chiffon, organza, raw silk, etc are a huge trend especially during day weddings. Suits worn with hats or strapples jumpsuits worn with a strand of pearls and you have added a touch of elegance to a simple outfit.

image

image

image

b) Ethnic wear : heavily embroidered palazzos with stone work or zardosi worn with an embellished long anarkali, or a straight chiffon jacket Kurta with a bordered collar and sleeves. Short kurtas are also trending making the outfit more shararish. Add a simple tikka and you are shaadi ready.
Thus, be a part of the latest trend but word of caution find the one that fits and keep away from layered kurtas as they could add too many curves. Petite frames should opt for lighter fabrics or even above the ankle palazzos as they could drown in all the fabric and the little skin show add more length, lean frames should opt for flowy fabrics to add curves and curvy frames for structured material so they have more proportion and wear them with longer tops.
Heavy bottom embelishments should be avoided by petite frames as they would look bogged down. Shoes play a very important role while wearing palazzos as they help you carry it off, heel is a necessity a minimum of atleast an inch if not more irrespective of block, stiletto, platform or wedges as they just make one look more polished. There are above the ankle palazzos which add length and give more focus on your footwear. So, be trendy and innovative and experiment with the new palazzo looks, has anyone tried south silk palazzos yet?
