Living on the edge

The latest trend which can be seen in designer fall collections has been the extensive use of suede and leather.

These materials are synonymous with jackets, shoes,  bags and belts but this time we find leather tops, dresses , skirts and pants as well. The benefit is obvious it tends to keep one warmer  as the winter months approach. So following trends can be a bit iffy, especially since these fabrics are tight fitting. So lets see how one can incorporate in one’s wardrobe and look classy :

1. Tops : leather is snug whereas suede in a top can be boxy so one has to be particular while choosing the right fit. Leather peplum tops are creating quite a range, suede off shoulder or more boxy tights with leggings or skinny jeans will balance out your figure.

2. Bottomwear : leather pants and skirts are an age old fall trend so what is different know? Well , the silhouette from fitted pants and mini skirts has evolved into leggings and midi or pencil skirts . Suede skirts are more in forms of pencil or even mini a line skirts and leggings again are an easy trend especially to go with the tall boots .

3. Dresses : this is where the trend has changed, leather by nature is a fitted fabric  but now us being used for flowy dresses like a shirt dress or fitted dress with a flowy bottom.  Suede is used for a more fitted aline dress giving a more work look.

4. Ethnic wear: sometimes it is hard to translate western wear trends into ethnic wear, making one feel less like a fashionista. But this trend though one might envision it hard is actually quite easy. And will definitely make you a show stopper in the upcoming wedding season by adding a bit of edge to your ethnic wear.

a) Sarees : i love sarees and think they are forever classic and in fashion. So how can i incorporate this fashion trend into my traditional look. Leather corsets are a thing of a past but what about opting for a leather crop top in black, brown or maroon with your lace saree. Or adding leathee sleeves and border to your raw silk blouse with your chiffon or georgette mukesh work saree. The hint is always to.use the fabric wear it will work to your advantage. Leather is fitted so it acts as a slimming agent and have a perfect fitted blouse enhances the look of any saree. Suede blouses are more like velvet ones, but work on the new trend add a suede cape or jacket with tassles over your blouse to get a more stylish look.

b) Salwar suits : fitted leather pants with an a line kurta or a sherwanu style anarkali, straight fitted leather kurta with brocade pants and dupatta are options to add a little bit of edge to your traditional attire.  Suede palazzos with a lace kurta or suede nehru jacket over a silk churidar kurta make the fabric stand out and also keep you warm in the chilly weather.

c) Wedding wear : so winter weddings silk and velvet galore but how can one look different. Try a lace lehenga with a leather corset choli, suede gharara with a silk kurta. Might get heavy and dry cleaning and correct storage is a must, but worth being  a fashionista.

Keeping up with the trends is hard qork especially trying to incorporate it into your different looks, but the rule is to find what works and how it will look on you. So remember,  till you don’t have the right fit then you don’t have the right fashion for you. So go on be edgy and you can always right to me for style and fashion advice 🙂
