Changing seasons call for changing fashions, transition from summer to autumn has started and the biggest trend is in the necklines. The biggest trend is Polo necks but loose hanging ones are in , instead of the regular tight necked ones.
Mostly Polo neck sweaters have always been considered as an important layering piece but now some designers have experimented it with being front and centre. Polo neck tops normally come in the basic fall colours of cream, black, brown, purple, maroon and darker shades, but now have additions in peach and bright orange as well. Technically sleeves tend to be fuller but now the trend is more popular in sleeveless and half sleeved.
These are the basic trends of the Polo necks but how can you incorporate it into your personal style to be trendy in the fall season :
1. Neckline : Polo necks are normally high necked and can make one look neckless , so be careful as to wear will it hit you on the neckline while buying one. Mostly low Polo necks which come up a little above the base of your neck work well, but the low hung cowl neckish ones tend to work better for most body types as they focus more on the body than the face. The space in between gives one a more structured look. Polo necks do emphasize on shoulders as they completely cover from the neck below.
2. Material : since they are more fall/ winter clothing the fabrics used are warmer which might be clingy too. Cashmere is popular× but opting for a bigger size will make it less snug if one is shy of body hugging silhouettes. Ribbed fabrics are always clingy so opting for mixed cotton or mixed wool works better.
3. Central piece: gone are the days when the Polo neck was layered , now it should be the centre point of your outfit. How can you use it as a top? Since the loser versions are more in this season, skinny jeans and pencil skirts tend to be the obvious options, but think different. Knife pleated maxi skirts, flared pants or even culottes can be worn to work. Adding a belt will definitely define a waistline. But loose silhouettes this season to be more trendy. Capes have become a staple replacing the jacket for a more put together fall look. Bundling up is still far away, but the chilly winds can be kept at bay with these 2 while looking trendy.
4. Indian silhouettes: this trend was visible in some high collared anarkali silhouettes in the recently concluded Fashion weeks. But why not incorporate it in your desi look, to stay on top of the fashion fall trends. Jewel necklines tend to be over the top, so opting for the low Polo necks by just using a different colour to highlight it’s importance. I personally would opt for the more cowl neckish option , but the fabric used has to have a good fall like Cashmere silk, mixed fabrics and even georgette give a more layered fall even replacing a dupatta or a scarf if placed and used carefully, prints in these fabrics will give a better effect. Straighter kurtas with pants or palazzos work best to complete this look.
So, be trendy this fall, but remember the fabric and the neckline are the most essential to keep in mind while choosing the perfect style and fit for your body types. Subtle prints, ombre effects in solid colours are the best to experiment with. So be stylish and experiment .
