The latest summer trend from retailers and New York fashion week is the off shoulder and cold shoulder. This flirty style is subtly sexy and apt for the warmer months. The recent trends can be seen in dresses , crop tops, jumpsuits, tops, etc. Lets look at the main difference between the two :
1. Off shoulder : it has a sabrina neckline but inclusive of sleeves or straps. It focuses on your shoulders and makes one look slimmer. Personally i find this the sexiest neckline as its subtle as well.
Best way to wear it :
1.)Strap off shoulders : found mostly in dresses which are more fitted or even in evening gowns of all styles. Has been an upcoming trend in jumpsuits and works best in one colour outfits use of accessories enhances the look.
2.)Short sleeves : puff or straight give it a more peasant – summer look especially in linen shirts. More squarish so hides your shape but of worn with fitted bottoms gives one the right proportions.
3.)Long sleeves : try it on a saree blouse, choli or even a salwar suit. The kurta or top needs to be more fitted above can be flowy on the edges. Try the dupatta with a belt to give the look more shape.
Thus, the off shoulder looks great on all body types but needs confidence to be carried off well. Ensure longer hemlines and covered bottoms if you feel its too much skin show. Even shorts or capris give the cool summer look if paired right with this style.
2. Cold shoulder: this mostly has an ex neckline with sleeves attached to it leaving the shoulders bare or even like a strappy top with sleeves attached. Mostly found in tops and blouses. Best way to wear it :
1.) Full or bell sleeves : with loose flowy tops or even maxi dresses. But since it can be quite flowy and shapeless the use of a belt helps in giving a more fitted look. Scarf or tie ups are the recent trends.
2.) Short sleeves : mostly found in tops and tshirts which are boxy or u shaped at the hem. One can also opt this in saree blouses and salwar suits. Personally i think thicker straps help make it look better.
Thus, this actually gives one broader shoulders as it puts a shape around it. It also focuses on shoulder and upper arm so if you are not comfortable then this might be one trend to skip.
This trend is catching on and the trend to ensure it compliments you is to keep the focus on the neckline and nit to over accessorize. Mostly less fitted style so balancing it helps in giving it more shape. So go ahead experiment with prints and colours and get ready for spring -summer 2016.
